FCC to take coordinated look at AT&T spectrum deals

The Rural Cellular Association and small carriers may have won a small victory in its request to have the FCC take a look at the proposed AT&T buy of MediaFLO and T-Mobile spectrum. The FCC said it will "consider them in a coordinated manner at this time." The carriers want the industry watchdog to consider the two acquisitions as a whole rather than separately, as they would have a large effect on the competitive market....

10.7: Change the login screen background image

You can customize the Lion Login screen background image. This hint shows where to find it.

After doing some research (thanks to 'EasyFind' that looks inside packages), I found the original file that is used for the login texture background image in Lion.

The file is called NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png, and the path to get to it is:

/System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources.

It is a 256 × 256 PNG image, so if you want to try replacing it that's what you should use. I uploaded a screenshot of the path to the file here.

[crarko adds: Have a bit of caution when changing a file like this used by the system. Mostly make sure you have a good backup around, and don't be too surprised if some software update reverts back to the original image.]

Video App Demo: Temple Run

Temple Run is an exemplary "pick up and play" game which will take you back to the days of Pitfall or (for you younger cats) Mirror's Edge or Canabalt. Like those running games, your job is to just keep running. But in Temple Run you're running through a maze of pathways in the ruins of an ancient temple somewhere -- a setting not unlike the first Indiana Jones, really. The great graphics and solid gameplay make this one a fun, simple game to play anytime.

As you can see below, the interaction is straightforward. As you're running your job is to swipe left/right to turn onto the paths, and up/down to jump or slide over and under obstacles. Things getting progressively faster, so you'll find those twitch muscles warming up fast. There are some other surprises, like powerups and a few environments as well. Take a look at the short demo below to get a taste of what Temple Run has to offer. Note that this was an early version of the game (taped in June 2011) and the YouTube demo video shows a bit more polish on the game.
